Local attorney Gaylin Carver won the Jefferson City prosecutor race in Tuesday's municipal election.
Of the 4,693 votes cast, Carver received 57.96 percent - according to unofficial Cole county results - beating candidate Scott Evans.
Evans received 41.79 percent of votes, according to the unofficial results.
Carver, who will serve a two-year term as city prosecutor, thanked the voters and those who helped her in the race. She also thanked Evans, "who was a great opponent."
"I'll do the best job I possibly can as city prosecutor, and I'll do what the voters voted me in to do," she said.
Carver previously said she wants to expand Jefferson City's municipal court programs. She also wants to ensure the Cole County Jail is being used as an appropriate tool to protect community members from dangerous individuals.
Carver is a partner attorney at Carver & Michael.
While Evans was "disappointed with the results," he said, he was "humbled" by the experience and the residents who voted for him.
"I'm happy for Gaylin, and I know she will do a good job for Jefferson City," Evans said.
Evans is a partner attorney at Law Office of Evans Crow Halcomb.
The city prosecutor receives $35,000 annually, according to Jefferson City Human Resources Department Director Gail Strope.
Current city prosecutor Brian Stumpe was elected as municipal judge Tuesday, beating out candidates Angela Silvey and Tim Anderson.
