Jefferson City man faces weapons charge

A Jefferson City man has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon after a Monday incident.

Armonn Cody, 20, attempted to cause serious injury to a woman he was in a relationship with in the 600 block of Michigan Street, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

The victim said Cody had come to her residence and they began to argue. He allegedly showed her a firearm he had in his waistband and told her he would fire it.

A witness at the scene confirmed the victim's story and said he was able to get Cody to leave the residence.

An officer in the area saw Cody get into a vehicle and reach around as though he was hiding something. He was later taken into custody after fleeing the scene with weapons accessories in his car.

During an interview with authorities, Cody admitted to going to the victim's residence and having the firearm, but claimed the victim was trying to blackmail him. He denied having the firearm with him while in the residence.

Officers searched Cody's vehicle and found a .40-caliber weapon. The victim and witness identified the firearm as the one they had seen Cody display.

Cody has a lengthy criminal history, according to court records. Since his arrest, authorities said, Cody has attempted to tamper with the victim and witness by offering them money to drop the case.
