A Jefferson City man pleaded guilty to an amended charge in connection with a drunk-driving crash that occurred in Cole County in August.

James Gordon, 37, pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor DWI during a hearing before Cole County Presiding Judge Patricia Joyce. The charge had been a felony. Also, a charge of leaving the scene of an accident was dismissed.

Gordon was placed on two years of unsupervised probation.

As part of his probation, Joyce ordered Gordon to complete a treatment program and serve a two-day shock detention sentence in the Cole County Jail.

Missouri Highway Patrol reports show the crash occurred on Heritage Highway, a tenth of a mile east of U.S. 54.

Gordon and his passenger, a 5-year-old child, were riding in a homemade go-cart when it overturned, partially ejecting the two. Both were treated for minor injuries.

Gordon left the scene and later was found on Buffalo Road. He told troopers he had driven down the gravel shoulder of Heritage Highway and hit a low area at the entrance to a convenience store. He walked the child home then went to a friend's house. Troopers gave him field sobriety tests and determined he was intoxicated.
