A Jefferson City man was placed on five years supervised probation in connection with a November crash in the Capital City.

David Brown, 56, pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident during a hearing before Cole County Judge Jon Beetem.

A charge of driving while revoked was dismissed.

Beetem also ordered Brown to serve a 60-day shock detention sentence in the Cole County Jail with credit for time served.

An officer responded to the 2000 block of Route C for a motor vehicle crash, according to a Jefferson City Police Department report.

Prior to arriving on the scene, the officer was told the driver had left the scene, but a witness had given another officer a description of the vehicle and the vehicle's license plate number.

A short time later, police spotted Brown's vehicle in the parking lot of Schulte's Fresh Foods on Southwest Boulevard. It had heavy front-end damage, and smoke was coming from under the hood of the vehicle. The vehicle's license plate matched the one for the vehicle involved in the earlier accident.

An officer went to talk to the driver, Brown, and found him to have bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, and he staggered after he exited the vehicle.

When questioned, Brown told officers he had been involved in the crash.

Court records show Brown has three prior DWI convictions, four prior driving while revoked convictions and multiple active DWI revocations.
