Crash ties up Jefferson City traffic Tuesday evening

A one-vehicle crash Tuesday evening in Jefferson City resulted in no injuries, but did tie up traffic for half an hour while emergency crews cleared the scene.

The crash occurred just after 6 p.m. on the ramp from southbound U.S. 63 to westbound U.S. 54, according to police reports.

Authorities said Jeffrey Isaacs, 47, of Jefferson City, was going south on U.S. 63 when he fell asleep.

As he approached the intersection for the ramp to westbound U.S. 54, Isaacs drove to the middle of the road where the concrete barrier starts, went off the left side of the road and struck a traffic attenuator with the front of his pickup. After the initial impact, Isaacs went off the right side of the road and struck the concrete barrier with the front passenger side of the pickup. Isaacs' vehicle came to rest in the middle of the ramp from southbound U.S. 63 to westbound U.S. 54.

Due to the extensive damage to the undercarriage, the pickup was not able to move off the road under its own power.

Isaacs had no reported injuries and was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The ramp from southbound U.S. 63 to westbound U.S. 54 was closed for approximately 30 minutes while the roadway was cleared.
