Fire damages Jefferson City home

Jefferson City firefighters extinguished a blaze Sunday afternoon that damaged a two-story home.

The fire department reported its units responded at 4:37 p.m. to the 400 block of East Ashley Street, where they found light smoke showing from the front of the structure. All the occupants had evacuated.

The blaze caused minor fire damage to the second floor and light to moderate smoke damage on both floors, according to a department news release.

The fire was determined to be accidental in nature and confined to a second floor closet. No injuries were reported at the time of the incident and no one was displaced by the fire.

Three engine companies, one squad company, one ladder company, a chief officer and the department chaplain, for a total of 17 department personnel, responded to the incident. They were assisted by Jefferson City police and Cole County EMS.
