A Jefferson City man was charged Monday with criminal actions including domestic assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, and drug possession and delivery.
A warrant for Larry McDonald Jr.'s arrest was issued Monday, and his bond was set at $20,000, cash only.
McDonald was not yet in custody as of about 4:10 p.m. Monday, according to the Cole County Sheriff's Office.
McDonald, 31, has been charged with second-degree domestic assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, delivery of a controlled substance and two counts of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
The charges stem from an incident Sunday night, when a 911 caller reported "yelling and several loud bangs" from a residence in the 1600 block of Westview Drive at 10:06 p.m., according to a probable cause statement from the Cole County Sheriff's Office.
An officer arrived at the residence, and a female victim "exited the residence with blood on her face and bloody lips. Then a second female exited the residence. Neither would cooperate with what had occurred or who was still inside," according to the probable cause statement.
The officer checked the residence for other victims and observed blood on the hallway walls.
A vehicle in the driveway with its driver's door and center console opened belonged to McDonald, and the officer said McDonald lived at the residence. A search warrant was obtained for the residence and vehicle.
Two bullet holes were located in the kitchen, as well as a 40-caliber shell casing.
Inside the vehicle, along with McDonald's wallet, keys and driver's license, a search found "a bag containing a digital scale and a large amount of small baggies. There were several small baggies of marijuana individually wrapped in the manner narcotics are sold. There was also a baggie containing methamphetamine. There was a holster inside the vehicle for a handgun."
The victim said in interviews that McDonald had made threats to kill her.
"She stated she was assaulted by McDonald and hit hard enough (that) she blacked out," the officer wrote in the probable cause statement. "The victim stated she heard the gunshots as she was blacking out. She stated she thought she was going to die tonight."
McDonald is a convicted felon and not allowed to possess a firearm.
Second-degree domestic assault is a class D felony; unlawful possession of a firearm, a class C felony; possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine - a class D felony; delivery of a controlled substance - marijuana - a class E felony; and the two counts of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia McDonald was charged with are both class A misdemeanors, according to a felony complaint document.
