Convenience store employee accused of trading merchandise for marijuana

A Jefferson City woman has been charged with stealing from her employer.

Jaime Diaz, 38, is charged with one count of felony stealing.

The owner of Phillips 66 on Stadium Boulevard found that from mid-February through mid-March his inventory was short and not matching his funds as if items from the business were being stolen, according to a Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement.

The owner reviewed store video and allegedly saw Diaz give multiple items to different customers. She apparently was not charging the customers for the merchandise, which included alcohol and tobacco products. In a two week period, the owner said, Diaz had given away nearly $1,200 in merchandise.

When questioned by authorities, Diaz reportedly said she had traded store merchandise to customers for marijuana for two months.
