PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Lauro Elementary School was placed on lockdown for about an hour Thursday morning after an unknown woman was seen in the school, according to police department spokeswoman Lindsay Lague.

No one was found, and the lockdown, which began at about 10:30 a.m., was lifted before 11:45 a.m.

Lague said that the unknown woman was seen in the school without a visitor's badge. "Police immediately responded and out of an abundance of caution and per protocol the school was put on lockdown," Lague said in a statement.

The school was thoroughly searched and nothing amiss was found, Lague said. "There was no immediate threat to students or school staff."

It was not clear what became of the woman who spurred the lockdown.

The school is at 99 Kenyon St., off Broadway near DePasquale Avenue.
