PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Gasoline prices in Rhode Island have dropped another three cents, AAA Northeast says.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline at self-service pumps in the Ocean State is $2.569, according to AAA's weekly survey.

It's the same price as Rhode Island drivers were paying a year ago. The current price in neighboring Massachusetts is $2.629, while the average in Connecticut is $2.749. The national average is $2.429.

“With many motorists planning holiday road trips, the drop in pump prices couldn’t come at a better time,” said Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs. “In every state, gas prices have dropped by double digits month over month, and AAA expects the national gas price average to dip as low as $2.40 by year’s end due to cheaper crude oil prices.”

AAA found a 46-cent range in prices, from a low of $2.339 to a high of $2.799.

AAA also found the following averages for other grades of gasoline or types of fuel: $2.919 for midgrade unleaded; $3.089 for premium unleaded; $3.179 for diesel.
