Senators 3, P-Bruins 2: Gustavsson's 35 saves thwart Providence

BELLEVILLE, Ontario — Zach Senyshyn continued his hot streak, scoring a goal for the third straight game, but it wasn't enough as the Belleville Senators held off the Providence Bruins, 3-2, on Saturday night.

Three different players scored goals and Filip Gustavsson stopped 35 shots in the win for the Senators.

Despite a 9-6 shots advantage and a pair of power plays for Providence, Belleville got the first goal of the with 5:25 left in the opening period. Chase Balisy took a hit to get the puck to Gabriel Gagne, who centered it to Joseph LaBate in the right slot. His shot went over the blocker of P-Bruins goaltender Dan Vlader.

Providence continued to pepper Senators goalie Gustavsson with shots, firing 13 on him in the first eight minutes of the second period, but Belleville added to its lead with a power-play goal at 12:02. Off the faceoff, Paul Carey fed a wide-open Rudolfs Balcers inside the left circle and he blasted a one-timer that Vladar had no chance to stop for his 10th goal of the season.

Providence finally cracked the scoreboard at 14:51, taking advantage of a power play of itsown. After winning the faceoff, Cameron Hughes and Senyshyn started a 2-on-1 break. Hughes sent a perfect centering feed to Senyshyn, who buried his ninth goal of the season to make it 2-1.

The Senators took it right back at 17:36. Jack Rodewald fired a slapper that missed the net but went off the end boards to Filip Chlapik near the goal line. He slipped his seventh goal of the season past Vladar and Belleville led, 3-1, after two periods.

Kyle Clifton, who was sent down by the parent Bruins earlier in the week, made it a one-goal game with 2:34 left, scoring his first goal of the season. Kyle Cumiskey kept the puck in the zone to Karson Kuhlman, who centered it to Ryan Fitzgerald. He found Clifton in the high slot, and the defenseman snapped a shot over the glove to make it 3-2.

The P-Bruins conclude their four-game road trip on Wednesday in Utica when they take on the Comets for at 7 p.m.
