Salem Fire Department lands $10K grant for gear
SALEM — The Salem Fire Department received notification Wednesday about receiving a grant award of $10,000 for personal protective equipment from the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of State Fire Marshal.
Chief Scott Mason said he was happy to hear the department received the grant, adding “this will help us get new turnout gear for our guys.”
The money will be used to buy five sets of turnout gear consisting of coats and pants for firefighting. He also said the department received a $450 tuition reimbursement to pay for an instructor course taken by Inspector Brandon Lucas, who is now certified to teach classes related to firefighting.
