Sooners Set to Host John Jacobs Invitational

April 18, 2019 | Track and Field

NORMAN — The Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams host the John Jacobs Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the John Jacobs Track Complex on the OU campus in Norman.

The meet begins at 5 p.m. CT on Friday with the men's hammer throw and women's shot put. The women's hammer throw and men's shot put are set for later in the evening, along with the women's 5,000-meter run at 7:30 p.m. and the men's 5,000-meter run at 8 p.m. The action continues on Saturday with the women's javelin throw set to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday's running events are scheduled to start at 12:20 p.m. as the women's 4x100 teams take the track. Action will conclude at 4 p.m. with the men's 4x400-meter relay. Oklahoma will also honor its graduating class at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The Sooners look to continue their success from last weekend's Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational in Los Angeles. OU picked up 15 event victories and nine second-place finishes on the campus of UCLA. For the second consecutive week, Oklahoma heads into competition with the nation's top men's and women's triple jump event groups. The Sooners remained at the top of the weekly USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings after winning both triple jump events in LA. Sophomore Papay Glaywulu took home the men's title, while sophomore Essence Thomas claimed first place for the women, followed by five more Sooners to round out the entire top six.

The invitational is the first home outdoor meet of the season for the Sooners, and admission is free for fans on both days. The John Jacobs Invitational will be the only time the Sooners compete at the John Jacobs Track Complex until OU hosts the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 9-11.

The meet will be live streamed online by SoonerSports.tv. Live results from the John Jacobs Invitational will be available through PTTiming, and final results can be found on SoonerSports.com following the meet.
