A man survived being shot in the head in St. Paul on Sunday, and police recovered the bullet fired at him lodged in the front of his baseball cap.

The victim, a 38-year-old St. Paul resident, was treated for an injury to his forehead and released from the hospital, police said.

Police spokesman Steve Linders said a bullet was found lodged in the forehead area of the baseball cap the victim was wearing. The vehicle he was sitting in was also apparently struck once by gunfire.

Linders confirmed the bullet traveled through a car windshield before striking the man.

A man who said he was the victim declined to comment.

According to police: The victim pulled up to a house in the 800 block of Arkwright Street. He was talking from inside his car with a person outside of the vehicle when the suspect walked around a corner and began firing about 1:15 a.m.

The suspect fled on foot and has not been arrested.

Linders said the case remains under investigation and that it's unclear how far the suspect was from the victim, the caliber and type of weapon used and the possible motive.
