Columbus police investigating alleged school threat

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police are investigating the identity of a person who made an alleged school threat Wednesday night on social media.

A Northside Middle School student reported to police last night, and then school officials this morning, that he’d received a threat of school harm from someone he didn’t know, and who didn’t know him or which school he attended, said Josh Burnett, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. communications director.

School resource officers were brought in to investigate. Police determined that no threat existed, and the district sent an e-alert to Northside parents at about 9:30 a.m. today informing them of the situation and that everything was OK, Burnett said.

“It was a vague threat of harm to people at a school that was not specific to Northside. There was nothing about Northside, Columbus or a middle school,” Burnett said.
