Club Olympia practices, competes in four states

Club Olympia swimmers practiced and competed in four different states last weekend and won three medals in the Columbus Youth Triathlon.

Rachel Sabotin, who will be a senior at Trinity Lutheran, left on June 6 for Southern California to train under coach Mark Schubert with Michael Brinegar’s team, the Mission Viejo Nadadores, for the two weeks leading up to the 2019 Dolfin Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions. That meet will take place Thursday through June 23.

Thirteen Club Olympia swimmers represented Team Indiana in the 2019 Central Zone Multi-Cultural Meet last weekend in Edwardsville, Illinois. Team Indiana competed against nine other teams from the Central Zone, winning with 4314.5 points to Team Illinois’ 3477. Oklahoma Swimming was third with 2428.5 points.

Swimmers from Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma and Wisconsin participated in the annual meet, which provides an opportunity for swimmers from all backgrounds to represent their LSC’s (states) and USA Swimming, celebrate diversity, achieve competitive goals, create lasting relationships, gain wisdom from their peers and share the passion and love of competitive swimming.

Erica Samuel was the high point winner for the Girls 15-18, scoring 125 points by winning the 200 freestyle and placing second in the 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley; fourth in the 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle and 200 backstroke and sixth in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly. She also was a member of Team Indiana’s winning Girls 15-18 A 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams.

Misha Machavariani scored 95 points in the Boys 11-12 events by placing second in the 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke, fourth in the 100 butterfly, sixth in the 50 butterfly, eighth in the 100 freestyle, ninth in the 50 freestyle, 10th in the 100 backstroke and 11th in the 50 backstroke. He also was a member of Team Indiana’s winning Boys 12-and-under A 200 freestyle and 200 bedley relays.

Ayush Panda scored 58 points in the Boys 15-18 events by placing fifth in the 200 freestyle, sixth in the 100 freestyle, seventh in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly, and tenth in the 50 freestyle. He also swam on Team Indiana’s A relays, which finished first in the 200 medley relay and second in the 200 freestyle relay.

Cole Ehara scored 47 points in the Boys 13-14 events by placing eighth in the 200 freestyle; 10th  in the 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 200 IM; 11th in the 100 freestyle; 12th in the 100 breaststroke; 14th in the 100 butterfly and 16th in the 100 backstroke. He also was on Team Indiana’s 200 medley B relay, which finished fourth, and its 200 Freestyle C Relay, which finished fifth.

Pratt Badve scored 17 points by placing ninth in the Boys 13-14 200 breaststroke, 11th in the 100 breaststroke and 15th in the 200 backstroke. He also was on Team Indiana’s B relays, which were fourth in the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays.

Zoie Chandelkar scored 15 points in the Girls 10-and-under division by finishing 12th in the 100 butterfly, 13th in the 50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly, and 15th in the 100 breaststroke. She also was on Team Indiana’s A 200 freestyle relay, which finished second, and the A 200 medley relay, which finished third.

Sanaa Kulkarni, also swimming in the Girls 10-and-under events, finished with 13 points by placing 11th in the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly and 16th in the 50 breaststroke. She also competed on the A 200 freestyle relay with Chandelkar to earn a silver medal.

Daniella Preston scored 12 points in the Girls 11-12 division by placing ninth in the 50 backstroke and 14th in the 100 butterfly. She also swam on Team Indiana’s C 200 freestyle relay, which came in 10th.

Advika Badve scored eight points by placing 13th in the 100 breaststroke, 14th in the 50 backstroke and 16th in the 100 backstroke. He also swam on Team Indiana’s A 200 medley relay to earn a bronze medal.

Also competing for Team Indiana at the Central Zone Multi-Cultural meet were Abigail Castillo, Lovely Panda, Aidan Castillo and Tony Machavariani.

Meanwhile, 19 swimmers from Club Olympia competed against swimmers representing 20 teams from six states at last weekend’s 91st Annual Ohio Valley Championships at Lakeside Swim Club in Louisville.

Leading the way for Club Olympia with 126 points was Nalanie Cortez, winning the Girls 13-14 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle and placing second in the 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle, sixth in the 200 IM and seventh in the 50 freestyle.

Brady Beyer scored 120 points by winning the Boys 13-14 200 breaststroke in a time that would have placed him sixth in the Men’s Open division. Beyer now holds three of the fastest 11 swims for his age in the U.S. for this year in the 200 breaststroke.

Beyer also finished second in the 13-14 100 breaststroke, third in the 200 IM, sixth in the 200 butterfly, 10th in the 400 freestyle and 16th in the 100 butterfly. He also scored by finishing 11th in the Men’s Open 800 freestyle and 14th in the 400 IM.

Connelly Furnish scored 57 points in just two days of competition, finishing in fifth in the Girls 10-and-under 100 breaststroke, seventh in the 200 freestyle, eighth in the 100 freestyle, 12th in the 200 IM and 13th in the 100 backstroke.

Misha Machavariani finished with 33 points in just one day of competition before heading to the Multi-Cultural Meet. He placed fifth in the Boys 11-12 50 breaststroke, eighth in the 50 butterfly, 14th in the 50 freestyle and 16th in the 50 backstroke.

Nick Green held his own against the swimmers, finishing with 26 points by placing 14th in the Men’s Open 800 freestyle, 15th in the 200 IM and 200 butterfly and 16th in the 400 IM.

Kulkarni scored 13 points in one day of competition in the Girls 10-and-under events by placing 10th in the 50 breaststroke. She also swam with Lovely Panda, Grier Lane and Zoie Chandelkar on the Girls 10-and-under 200 freestyle relay which came in fourth.

Lane scored seven points by finishing 15th in the Girls 10-and-under 100 butterfly and 16th in the 50 backstroke. she also earned her first individual state cut in the 10-and-under Half-Mile Open Water race coming up at the end of June.

Also competing for Club Olympia at the OVC meet were Advika Badve, Ivanka Chandelkar, Cassidy Furnish, Maggie Johnson, Preston, Pratt Badve, Arjun Bhadoria, Shreyan Kulkarni, Tony Machavariani and Ayush Panda.

Finally, three Club Olympia swimmers competed in the Ninth Annual Columbus Youth Triathlon. Leading the way with a first-place finish was Connelly Furnish in the 6-10 Female age group. Nandini Kondhare finished third in the same division, and Shreyan Kulkarni placed second in the 6-10 Male division.

GOLF

Threesome wins scramble

Steve Lewis, Reese Moore and Allen Hodapp won the Par 3 Scramble Tuesday at Par 3 Golf Course.

The threesome carded a 3-under-par 24 to capture the weekly tournament.
