Lakeview, Girard, Niles grab initial NE-8 wins

LAKEVIEW 63, SOUTH RANGE 54: CORTLAND — AJ McClellan had a game-high 22 points to lead the Bulldogs and send the Raiders home with their first loss.

Daniel Evans, who had 14 of his 18 points before halftime, scored in double figures for Lakeview (4-1, 1-0 Northeast-8).

Chris Brooks paced South Range (3-1, 0-1) with 21 points, while Nick Matos added 11.

GIRARD 67, JEFFERSON 44: GIRARD — Matt Payich had a game-high 20 points to lead the Indians past the Falcons in NE-8 play.

Austin Clausell had 11 of his 14 points in the first quarter as Girard (4-0, 1-0) took a 19-5 lead.

Christian Graziano had 10 rebounds.

Mehialic paced Jefferson (0-4, 0-1) with 18 points.

NILES 75, HUBBARD 55: NILES — Corbin Foy poured in 26 points and Cyler Kane-Johnson added 21 as the Red Dragons won in the Northeast-8 Conference opener for both teams. Kane-Johnson also had six steals for Niles (3-1, 1-0 NE-8).

Cam Resatar had a game-high 34 points for Hubbard (0-3, 0-1).

Niles led 22-16 after one quarter and 43-25 at halftime. The Eagles cut the deficit to 56-42 after three quarters.

MATHEWS 79, ST. JOHN 52: VIENNA — Tyler Roscoe had a career-high 38 points to lead the Mustangs past the Heralds.

Roscoe has 96 points in his last three games for Mathews (4-1), including 28 last Friday against Badger and 30 Tuesday versus Heartland Christian.

John Smith added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs.

John Castrilla put in a team-high 28 points for St. John (0-5), while David Disalatore added 12.

SPRINGFIELD 87, MCDONALD 71: NEW MIDDLETOWN — Zach Rasile poured in 41 points but it wasn’t enough as the Blue Devils dropped a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference decsion on the road. Josh Celli added 14 points for McDonald (0-2, 0-2 MVAC).

The Devils led 21-19 after one quarter and 40-39 at halftime, but were outscored 48-31 in the second half.

Springfield had three players over the 20-point mark, Drew Clark with 27, Evan Ohlin with 22 and Clay Medvec with 21.

SEBRING 79, JACKSON-MILTON 52: NORTH JACKSON — Joey Clark had 16 of his game-high 22 points in the second half, including five 3-pointers, as the Trojans pulled away from the Blue Jays in this Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference game.

Jake Hunter added 20 points and 10 assists for Sebring (5-1, 2-0 MVAC), while Gabe Lanzer added 11. The Trojans spread the ball around with 22 assists.

David Vega put in 12 points for Jackson-Milton (1-3, 0-2) wile Mason Robinson had 10.

POLAND 61, FITCH 42: AUSTINTOWN — Despite a 20-point effort from Todd Simons, Austintown Fitch dropped to 0-5 on the season with the loss to Poland. The Bulldogs (2-1) led 17-10 after one quarter, 29-18 at halftime and 48-31 after three quarters.

Braeden O’Shaughnessy scored 22 points for Poland and Daniel Kramer added 19.
