Agartala, Jul 29 (UNI) Following multiple pressures from the high court, civil society and persuasions of Chief Minister finally, Agartala Municipal Council (AMC) has committed to complete the cleaning work of city before upcoming Durga puja scheduled in October first week.
Officials said that AMC has undertaken massive cleaning drive of drains, markets, water bodies and colonies besides, demolishing illegal constructions and evicting encroachments from the government land after a high court of Tripura directed AMC time-bound action.
AMC Commissioner Dr Sailesh Kr Yadav said the municipal officials are deployed on the ground to supervise the cleaning drive and also AMC has increased its manpower engaged in drain cleaning from earlier 150 to 600 labours on daily basis.
The Zonal Officers and Engineers were directed to visit ward areas to supervise the cleaning works from early morning to late evening. Those shopkeepers and residents who are littering are penalized on the spot and so far average daily penalty collection rose to Rs 60,000. All six large desilting machines are deployed in feeder drains to clear the accumulated silt, which has not been cleaned for more than a decade.
According to Municipal Commissioner, the plan is to desilt 55 major and feeder drains of 54 KM length which will yield 1,11,225 Cubic Meter silt over next 3 months and clean 21 Bazaar areas in Agartala as a part of a special drive. The water body in Maharajganj Bazaar is being cleaned after 30 years.
With the specific direction of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, AMC has changed the schedule transportation of waste and movement of such vehicles in the city area between 0400-0900 hrs. There was put a complete restriction of movement of waste carrying vehicles beyond the specified hours.
Even the large commercial vehicles have been banned from entering in Agartala City during the day time as it obstructs traffic and cleaning activities.
