Congress decides to fight urban bodies by-election in Tripura district

Ambassa(Tripura), Nov 20(UNI) The Congress has decided to field candidates in the by-election of two urban bodies in northern Tripura district of Dhalai.
After the Left's debacle in the last Assembly election, the elected members of different rural and urban bodies had resigned from their posts. As a result, in the by-election to the rural bodies recently no opposition had been able to put up their candidates. Now, in December the by-election to the urban bodies might take place in which Congress have declared to field their candidates in both the urban bodies in the district.
District Congress president Manik Deb said, "In our district there are two urban bodies namely Ambassa Municipal Corporation with 15 seats and Kamalpur Nagar Panchayat with 13 seats. We will put up our candidates in all the seats against BJP. And considering the rage of people against the misrule of BJP we can assure that if the government ensures proper environment, we will win considerable number of seats". In this regard, the selection of candidates have already started. However, the main opposition CPI-M has declared not to contest in the election protesting the atrocities of BJP.
