Indo-Bangla inks pact to use Mongla port for Tripura

Agartala, Aug 24 (UNI) Aiming to cater to the growing demand for petroleum products in Tripura, the Centre has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh for transporting 20 LPG bullet trucks through Mongla port in Bangladesh on pilot basis.
Officials here today said that India has a supply chain all kinds of petroleum products but transportation to Tripura sometimes become challenging due to geographical reasons. The state government has proposed the Centre to talk with its Bangladesh counterpart for using their port and roads for easy transportation of essential items on urgent basis, which will be cost effective and time saving.
Besides, carrying over dimensional consignment for Palatana gas based thermal power project, Tripura has used the river ports of Bangladesh for transporting rice from Andhra Pradesh in several occasions. Two years ago, when road condition in Southern Assam was deplorable, road of Bangladesh from Meghalaya was used for carrying petroleum products in North Tripura.
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Manoj Kanti Deb said transportation of 20 LPG bullet trucks will begin within span of five months and accordingly the bottling plants of Tripura can bottle up 75 truck-containers within two months and production of gas cylinders would reach to 6.9 lakh per month here.
The state government has been also working for increasing the volume of petrol and diesel storage capacity from 400 kilolitres to 2050 kilolitres in Dharmanagar. Apart from this, more 150 petrol pumps and 10 LPG outlets would be set up in different sub-divisions of Tripura.
