NGT petitioned against ‘illegal’ coal export in Meghalaya

Shillong Jul 6 (UNI) A petition has been filed with the Chairman, National Green Tribunal, New Delhi against alleged “non implementation” of the directions of the tribunal by the government of Meghalaya in regard to alleged illegal export of coal to neighbouring Bangladesh.
The petition, filed by Pawan Sharma through his advocate said that the NGT Tribunal vide order dated 17.01.2020 had directed complete ban on the "Rat Hole Mining" in Meghalaya and thereafter on the basis of several recommendations of the committee constituted by it, the tribunal issued many directions to check "Rat Hole Mining" and abuse of process of law by the State of Meghalaya regarding extraction, transport and export of coal and causing loss to the public exchequer besides degrading the environment.
“But very unfortunately the "Rat Hole Mining" continues along with all its ills with impunity,” the PIL said.
