Agartala, Mar 7 (UNI) A two member team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) led by Arpan Saha arrived here last night to take part in interrogation of banned Jamaat-ul-Mujahedeen of Bangladesh (JMB) operative Nazir Sheikh (25), a resident of Murshidabad district of West Bengal who was arrested from A D Nagar area of the city on March 5 last.
According to report, Nazir has been working for expansion of JMB activities in the state for last few days who has come here as a construction worker. The NIA team has been interrogating him since last night and got his network in West Bengal. They would seek for his transit remand to take him to Bengal.
A local court yesterday granted him 12 police remand for interrogation.
Nazir admitted that he had been trained on operation of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in a bordering town of Tamil Nadu. Nazir confessed that he was influenced in Jehadi activities after serial blast of 2005 in Bangladesh and actively involved in planting IEDs in Buddha Gaya during Dalali Lama last year and several crimes in West Bengal and Bangaluru recently.
After passed higher secondary in 2012, Nazir came into the contact of JMB frontliner Ashif and thereafter he has been actively working for JMB terrorist. He has visited the camps of JMB network at Goyalpara and Silchar of Assam, Chennai and Bangaluru, police sources claimed.
During interrogation, the police officers received several vital inputs from Nazir and recovered some documents from his possession. Police indicated that Nazir arrived here with a specific mission ahead of the Loksabha polls and had engaged working as a construction worker at A.D. Nagar area few days ago.
Tripura DGP A K Shukla said that Nazir was picked from a location here based on a specific intelligence input. He hails from and his link established with Jamaat-ul-Mujahedeen of Bangladesh who were involved in the laying of IED in Buddha Gaya during Dalailam’s last year’s visit.
Police are also analyzing all aspects including his suspected link with drug smugglers based in Tripura; Shukla highlighted adding that arrest of the JMB operative from Tripura is very significant keeping in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, as the visit of VVIPs has already been started.
