Punjab govt releases Rs 322 cr for post matric scholarship, power subsidy for farmers

Chandigarh, Nov 21 (UNI) On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, the Finance department on Wednesday released Rs 322 crore towards Post Matric Scholarships and Power Subsidy for farmers.
According to a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office, a sum of Rs 172 crore had been released to Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities for payments under the Post Matric Scholarships scheme for 2016-17, with another Rs 150 crore given to Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) for agriculture power subsidy to farmers.
"Capt Amarinder has reiterated his earlier direction to all the departments to manage their finances far more prudently, thereby ensuring financial discipline, besides cutting down any wasteful expenditure in order to further consolidate the state’s overall fiscal position," he added.
