Punjab Govt's proposal to organise inter-jail sports tournaments

Phagwara, Feb 17 (UNI) In a bid to reform jail inmates by indulging them in sporting activities, Jail Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Sunday said the Punjab government is mulling to start inter-jail sports tournaments in the state.
The Minister, who was in Village Rurrka-kalan near Goraya to preside over a Kabaddi tournament, said that sports could act as a catalyst in transforming the personality of an individual. He said that the state government is exploring feasibility of organising inter-jail sports tournaments in Punjab with a view of to channelise the energy of inmates in a positive direction. Randhawa said that it would help inreforming the jail inmates on one hand and eliminating drug menace on the other.
The Minister said that under this scheme the NRI brethren, who were already playing a major role in promotion of sports, would also be roped in.
