BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The governor’s race in Louisiana this year isn’t the only item on the agenda in terms of politics. A handful of lawmakers will term out of their seats in the state legislature.

On Tuesday, Senator Dan Claitor called for local leaders to support new candidates as they run and prepare to take over. Claitor says he’s concerned new lawmakers could be manipulated if they’re not prepared before they take office. Lawmakers are expected to take on a number of big tasks in 2020, such as congressional redistricting.

“We’re going to have an election next year, and who are we going to get to turn out? Who are we going to get to run? Who wants that headache?” said Claitor.

Almost half of the Senate is termed out in 2019. Almost every House seat is up for re-election as well.
