37 residents displaced after apartment complex fire in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Dozens of people were displaced after a fire destroyed several apartment units Thursday evening.

Firefighters responded to 1837 La Annie Drive, near Tams Drive and S. Choctaw Drive, just before 4:30 p.m. The fire was under control by 6 p.m.

The fire damaged at least 18 units, displacing 37 people.

A spokesperson for the Baton Rouge Fire Department says the fire started on the second floor of one of the apartment buildings. Firefighters were forced to evacuate second-floor efforts as the roof began to collapse.

Investigators are still determining a cause of the fire. Foul play is not suspected.

The Red Cross was made available to assist the victims of the fire. Most made their own arrangements, six were provided shelter by the Red Cross.

No injuries were reported.
