ALBANY, GA (WALB) -Albany Technical College’s president says Procter & Gamble’s Albany plant being named Georgia’s 2019 manufacturer of the year will help grow manufacturing jobs in South Georgia.

With more than 500 employees, Procter & Gamble took home the award in the category of large manufacturer.

They received the award based on their economic impact, and community involvement.

Representatives at Albany Tech say the plant has been influential in involving the school’s transportation department, which helps lower their cost, and gives students jobs.

“If we can reduce the transportation cost then the plants here in Albany, especially Procter & Gamble, our large manufacturer of the year, will have the opportunity to produce and ship their products, Bounty and Charmin, at a lower cost,” said Albany Tech President Anthony Parker.

The transportation program is rather new.

The department has been working closely with P&G for the advancement of the Albany community.
