Fallen LMPD Det. Deidre Mengedoht honored in Frankfort
FRANKFORT, KY (WAVE) - Kentucky lawmakers honored Louisville Metro Police Detective Deidre Mengedoht, who was hit by a car and killed in a crash on Christmas Eve.
The Senate held a moment of silence and the House passed a resolution to adjourn on Monday in honor of Mengedoht.
“Let us stand in a moment of silence for this fallen family member, friend, colleague and hero,” a Senate leader said.
Her family stood on the Senate floor, wiping away tears as several tributes were given.
“I didn’t know Dee Dee,” Rep. Jerry Miller (R-Louisville) said on the floor of the House. “But from what I know now, she’s an inspirational role model, she’s a compassionate officer, and a wonderful mom. And just I ask you to again recognize this family for the sacrifice they’ve made.”
Detective Mengedoht died when her cruiser was hit during a traffic stop.
Police say the man charged in her murder admitted to taking several prescription medications before getting behind the wheel.
