MOUNDVILLE, AL (WBRC) - Folks living in the Riverview Beach community of Hale County know how to handle flood waters. But even those who have lived there a long time call the flood damage this week some of the worst in recent years.

Water remains over Cut Off Road in several spots heading into Hale County’s Riverview Beach Community.

“It washes the road away. It damages the base under the road and it almost washes bridges out,” Donald Sanford said.

Sanford, the president of the area’s neighborhood association, showed us the damage caused since flooding forced some people here to be rescued.

“I would say it was around 6 or 7 feet deep where we’re sitting now. It was extremely high,” Sanford said.

Nineteen people to be rescued due to the threat of flooding.

“This was the second worst. Maybe a foot less than what it looked like in ’09,” Sanford said,

We found big holes formed in the dirt road that cuts through the sub-division. And piles of trash and storm debris washed along the side of the road. But homes look secure, with many items tied down so as not to float away remained in place.

″We came out pretty good. People out here expect this stuff and you prepare for it," Sanford said.

Sanford said around 40 people live in Riverview Beach. Although several people there had to be rescued. Several people stayed in their homes and waited for the waters to go down,
