MOUNDVILLE, AL (WBRC) - Residents of one Tuscaloosa County subdivision faces a problem few would think is still possible in 2019.

People living in the Glen Ridge subdivision in Moundville don’t have internet service and they don’t know when they could get it.

Residents are currently asking the Tuscaloosa County Commission for help.

Glen Ridge is a relatively new neighborhood in Moundville. Several residents didn’t learn that cable companies or internet providers didn’t service that subdivision until after they moved in.

Last week, some of those people attended a Tuscaloosa County Commission meeting. They asked commissioners to pressure if they could pressure an internet providers into extending service to Glen Ridge.

One woman explained why this is a hardship for her children.

“Well, I have 2 year-old triplets with special needs. Two of them have autism. One was born with hearing loss and ocular implants. We can’t even do tele-therapy and take advantage of those services due to the lack of internet,” said Shanquail Horton.

Tuscaloosa County commissioners seemed receptive to pressing an internet provider to help that subdivision and other places with similar problems when they’re scheduled to renegotiate a new deal later this year.

We’ll let you know what happens with that.
