BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The Alabama Ballet Company will hold its annual Ovation performance the weekend of April 26-28 in Birmingham.

This year, the performance will include a first-of-it’s-kind contemporary dance that is choreographed by critically acclaimed Germaul Barnes. Barnes, based out of Brooklyn, New York, traditionally travels the world as a guest choreographer to bring fresh and new ideas to universities or high schools, but this will be his first with a ballet company.

“I am excited to bring contemporary dance to a ballet company,” said Barnes. “We have worked hard this last month to get ready for the performance, and the dancers have responded, despite the style being so drastically different to what they are used to performing.”

Ovation will be performed at the BJCC Theatre. Performances are Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the box office at 866-869-9004 or Alabama Ballet at 205-322-4300.
