CONCORD, NC (WBTV) - Concord Mills Mall was evacuated Wednesday after what officials are calling a “small fire.”

According to the Concord Fire Department, the fire occurred around 4:20 p.m. in a back isolated corridor at the mall near Off Broadway Shoes. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, but the mall was forced to close due to smoke and water damage.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within eight to ten minutes. Officials say due to the sprinkler system and alarm, the fire was kept to a small confined area.

City officials said everyone was evacuated safely and asked the public to avoid the area if possible.

There is no word on how the fire may have started and no damage estimates have been released.
