CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - David Box, Matt Broughton, Bobby Faircloth, Terri Meadows, and Jesi Stracham are all local Charlotte wheelchair curlers. Each have been selected to participate in the Selection Trials and Camp, which will take place May 30 through June 2 at the Denver Curling Club in Golden, Colo.

From a group of 12 athletes narrowed down from athletes across the country, a minimum of four individuals will be selected to attend the 2020 National Team Selection Trials scheduled to take place July 6 through 7 at the Four Seasons Curling Club in Blaine, Minnesota.

“Sticks and Stones Curling came together and brought us closer than ever, we train together, we hangout afterwards we are a family and it shows on the ice as our scores improve," says Stracham. “We are trying out for team USA essentially is our goal.”

According to the Charlotte Curling Association, the athletes will compete against the eight returning 2019 National Team members for a spot on the 2020 National Wheelchair Curling Team.

“Its such a strong number to have 5 of the twelve come from Charlotte curling," says Stracham. “It shows you that we have a strong wheelchair program here.”
