POPLARVILLE, MS (WDAM) _ Pearl River Community College softball catcher Mary Grace Turner hit a walk-off solo home run in extra innings in the opener of a Saturday doubleheader with Baton Rouge Community College.

Grace Stringer’s one-hit pitching effort allowed the Lady Wildcats to sweep the visiting Lady Bears and finish 3-1 in the weekend’s Wildcat Invitational.

PRCC 2, Baton Rouge CC 1 (8 innings)

Turner’s third home run of the season sailed over the fence in right field to give the Lady Wildcats the victory in the opener.

PRCC led 1-0 on Alyssa Pinero’s run-scoring single in the third inning before Savanna Orgeron’s solo homer in the top of the fourth inning tied the game.

Ashley Terwillger and Hannah Rasberry saved runs with plays in the outfield before Turner’s big hit decided the game.

Rylee Swilley (1-2) picked up her first win of the season, allowing one run on five hits in eight innings. She walked two and struck out five.

Lacey Bonvillain (01) took the loss, allowing two runs on eight hits over 7 2/3 innings. She walked one, struck out five.

PRCC 8, Baton Rouge CC 1 (6 innings)

The Lady Wildcats cranked out 13 hits in support of Grace Stringer’s one-hit, complete-game shutout in the second game of the doubleheader with the Lady Bears.

Stringer (3-0) struck out four in six innings.

Breanna Cochran. Brooke Fagan and Elizabeth Taggard each hit a double and single, with Cochran driving in three runs and scoring a run and Fagan coming up with a run and RBI.

Terwillger hit a triple and single, scoring twice and driving in a run and Autumn Clark hit a double and scored twice.

Losing pitcher Bailey Duhon (0-1) gave up eight runs on 13 hits, while walking none and striking out two.

The Lady Wildcats (4-2) are scheduled to play four games in Gulf Shores, Ala., at the Sun Chief Classic Friday and Saturday.
