A man was stabbed in the stomach Tuesday night, Aug. 20, during an argument and fight in Santa Fe Springs.

Whittier police arrested one suspect after the stabbing which happened on the 11000 block of Cultura Street at 8:57 p.m.

An earlier dispute over a minor collision on the same street is related to the stabbing, according to Whittier police spokesman Officer John Scoggins said.

The collision happened about an hour before the stabbing and involved a male driver and a female driver, Scoggins said.  He said the man had words with the woman.

He said a relative of the woman came home, found out what happened and went over to confront the other driver. The argument escalated to a fight and a stabbing, Scoggins said.

He said the victim, a 31-year-old Santa Fe Springs resident, was taken to a local hospital, treated and released.

Police arrested Steven Fierro, 46, of Santa Fe Springs on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Scoggins said.  Officers also recovered a knife at the scene.
