Wilmington Chamber, WBD Plan Jobs Announcement Thursday

By Christina Haley O'Neal, posted Aug 6, 2019
A new business is coming to Wilmington, and officials with the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce and Wilmington Business Development have planned a jobs announcement Thursday.

The announcement will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, One Estell Lee Place, in downtown Wilmington, Natalie English, the chamber's president and CEO, said Tuesday.

The business lead came through a "personal connection" English has to the employer, which she declined to name Tuesday.

"This client is someone that I worked within my role at the Charlotte chamber; someone who has a great appreciation for a role a chamber plays in a community. And so when they became interested in Wilmington, I was the person that they reached out to, and the chamber," English said.

Wilmington Business Development (WBD), an economic development organization that serves Wilmington, New Hanover and Pender counties, was brought on board early on to help the client further, English said.

WBD officials declined to comment Tuesday on the pending announcement.

News about the new business and new jobs announcement this week first came through English's president’s report email Monday afternoon.

“On Thursday, the Chamber is working in partnership with WBD and the City to announce a new company bringing jobs to the region starting this year. We are excited to welcome this company to Wilmington,” English wrote in the letter.

The statement was among jobs statistics English highlighted in her report.

"I just did some very preliminary cursory research on the N.C. Secretary of State website and found that over 1,600 businesses have started since Jan. 1 in New Hanover County this year," English said Tuesday.
