Memphis Express looking to improve in Game 2

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - We are less than 48 hours away until kickoff of the Memphis Express first home game in the new Alliance of American Football.

Everybody is hoping the bugs are worked out after the shakedown cruise at Birmingham last week.

As far as opener go it’s definitely one to forget for the Express, especially offensively.

Memphis generated just 202 total yards offense, and was shutout by the Iron 26-0.

The lack of offensive production falls on the shoulder of quarterback Christian Hackenbery, a former NFL 2nd round pick out of Penn State.

Hackenberg was 10 of 23 for only 87 yards and a pick, and had a touchdown pass called back on an illegal formation penalty.

He says he watched the film of the fiasco immediately after the game on the plane ride home.

“There were some good things in there from all of us, there were some bad things, and there were some real ugly things.” said Hackenberg. “As a unit we have to do some self reflection. Coaching staff included, and we’ve done that so far. It’s all a part of the process. You can take that and fold, or you can continue to grow and fight through it. Figure out where you have to get better.”

We'll see how much improvement they make.

Kickoff against the Arizona Hotshots is Saturday 7 p.m. at the Liberty Bowl.
