4th annual Memphis Black Restaurant Week set to be biggest one yet, founder says

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Memphis Black Restaurant Week will enter its fourth year March 3-9, with fresh opportunities for new eateries.

Founder Cynthia Daniels says she was inspired to launch the week for two reasons.

"We celebrate so many other ethnicities with festivals, and other week-long celebrations so I fell in love with black restaurants that are hidden jewels around the city so I wanted to create a platform where we could really market and celebrate them," Daniels said.

A few featured restaurants include the historic Four Way, Sage, Bluff City Crab, and Ballhoggerz BBQ.

This year will also feature six fairly new restaurants that have been open for one year or less.

Each location will offer lunch and dinner specials.

"You have a lunch special: 2 items for $15, dinner specials are going to be 3 items for $25 and you go in the restaurant of your choice and you eat amazing food. It’s that easy," Daniels said.

In addition to new clientele, Daniels says many of the participating restaurants have seen job creation, yielding an overall economic boost in the city of more than half a million dollars.

“We have brought in $575,000 to the Memphis community for the past 3 years so this year is going to be our biggest one yet,” Daniels said.
