MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The Memphis Zoo is responding to concerns that YaYa the panda is malnourished.

Some of those concerns came from a Facebook post circulating a picture of the Panda.

According to Zoo officials, YaYa is not malnourished. In fact, she is 18 years old, middle-aged and perfectly healthy.

They say around this time she does tend to lose hair, but it’s OK.

“YaYa had her annual exam earlier this Spring, just like she has every year,” said Courtney Janney from Memphis Zoo. “We are able to look at blood work, her body condition, her skin. Everything checking out, just normal YaYa.”

Zoo officials say YaYa is a smaller framed giant panda and her weight is measured every day.

About 100 pounds of bamboo is provided for each bear per day.
