U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster wants to serve with Chris Pappas in Washington beginning next year.WMUR has learned that Kuster is the latest major elected Democrat to weigh in with an endorsement of the Manchester executive councilor and restaurant owner.Kuster, who is running for a fourth term representing the state’s 2nd Congressional District, will make it official Monday when she and Pappas host a reproductive rights roundtable at the Equality Health Center in Concord."I have known Chris since he first ran for office in 2002, and I've watched him dedicate his career to serving his community and the Granite State,” Kuster said in a statement provided to WMUR.“As a member of the Executive Council, Chris Pappas demonstrated the type of leadership that New Hampshire families need and deserve. He helped to expand access to healthcare for tens of thousands of individuals and stood up against partisan efforts to restrict women's access to reproductive health care services."Kuster joins U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan in backing Pappas, who is one of 11 Democratic candidates seeking the seat currently held by U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter.Shea-Porter, who is not seeking re-election, has endorsed her former chief of staff, Naomi Andrews, for the seat, while U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen has not made an endorsement in the primary.Pappas has also been endorsed by his fellow Democratic executive councilor, Andru Volinsky, Democratic state Sens. Donna Soucy, Lou D’Allesandro, David Watters and Kevin Cavanaugh, a majority of his party's New Hampshire House members from 1st Congressional District cities and towns, as well as mayors Joyce Craig of Manchester, Dana Hilliard of Somersworth and Caroline McCarley of Rochester.He has also been endorsed by eight labor unions, including the two largest unions in the state -- NEA-New Hampshire and the State Employees Association (SEIU Local 1984). Pappas has been focusing on reproductive rights on the campaign trail in recent days, holding a meeting with advocates and professionals at the Joan G. Lovering Center in Greenland on Thursday.On Monday, Kuster will be with Pappas at the roundtable event at the Equality Health Center in Concord at 10 a.m.They will host a discussion about “the importance of women's reproductive rights and family planning funds as the Trump administration proposes new rules to dismantle Title X,” Pappas’ campaign said. “The federal comment period for the Title X rule changes will end on July 31.”Trump is essentially proposing setting up what has been described as a firewall between federal funds for family planning and abortion services. But reproductive rights advocates say the rule will block groups such as Planned Parenthood from receiving Title X funds and will have a broader impact.Kuster said she has known Pappas since he first ran for office in 2002, “and I’ve watched him dedicate his career to serving his community and the Granite State.”She said that Pappas, as the fourth-generation owner of the Puritan Backroom restaurant, “understands the needs of our workers and business community alike and will help grow and strengthen our economy." She said he will be a “strong voice” for the district.Pappas said he was honored to receive the endorsement, calling Kuster “ a steadfast advocate for our state, and it would be a true honor to join her in the important fights for New Hampshire's families and Main Street businesses. Together, we will hold the line on Republican attempts to take us backward while working to restore decency and integrity in Washington."

U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster wants to serve with Chris Pappas in Washington beginning next year.

WMUR has learned that Kuster is the latest major elected Democrat to weigh in with an endorsement of the Manchester executive councilor and restaurant owner.

Kuster, who is running for a fourth term representing the state’s 2nd Congressional District, will make it official Monday when she and Pappas host a reproductive rights roundtable at the Equality Health Center in Concord.
