Crews made a bit of an unusual rescue Thursday night in Strafford.Firefighters from Rochester joined crews in Strafford at about 6 p.m. to help rescue an ox trapped in a trench off Barberry Lane. >> Download the FREE WMUR appThe ox, which weighed roughly 1,600 pounds, was trapped in a muddy, 6-foot trench.Rescuers placed straps around the animal and used an excavator to hoist it out of the trench to safety.The animal was checked out by a veterinarian and suffered minor injuries.In all, nearly two dozen firefighters assisted in the rescue.Crews shared photos of the rescue on the Rochester Professional Firefighters- L-1451 Facebook page.

Crews made a bit of an unusual rescue Thursday night in Strafford.

Firefighters from Rochester joined crews in Strafford at about 6 p.m. to help rescue an ox trapped in a trench off Barberry Lane.
The ox, which weighed roughly 1,600 pounds, was trapped in a muddy, 6-foot trench.
Rescuers placed straps around the animal and used an excavator to hoist it out of the trench to safety.
The animal was checked out by a veterinarian and suffered minor injuries.
In all, nearly two dozen firefighters assisted in the rescue.
