UPDATE: Man shot, killed on Tip Top Drive in Columbus; victim?s girlfriend charged with murder

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A woman has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a man in Columbus on Wednesday.

The shooting happened at around 3:30 p.m. at a home on Tip Top Drive. The shooting claimed the life of 55-year-old John Allport.

According to police, 50-year-old Vickie Perez, the victim’s live-in girlfriend, was determined to be the aggressor and is charged with one count of murder. She is expected to appear in Recorder’s Court on Feb. 22 at 9:00 a.m.

In a statement given to police, Perez said that she and Allport were having a verbal altercation when she retrieved her pistol from a bedroom. Perez stated the pistol went off, striking Allport.

Perez’s Recorder’s Court hearing is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 22 at 9 a.m.
