TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A bad joint caused an estimated 8,000 gallons of untreated domestic wastewater to overflow at a Tallahassee pump station.

On Tuesday morning, city crews inspecting a pump station on Centerville Road found a leak that caused an estimated 8,000 gallons of untreated domestic wastewater to overflow.

The city said the overflow volume was contained to a low-lying area on the pump station property and did not impact surface waters.

Crews immediately re-routed the water flow to stop the leak and keep the pump station in service until repairs are made.

Crews suspect the leak was caused by a bad joint poking out from the station. They were able to complete full recovery of the lost water.

The impacted area was cleaned and disinfected and there is no risk to public health.
