(WTXL) - Multiple reports of bomb threats to various public locations have come in across the nation, including three reports in Tallahassee.

The Tallahassee Police Department confirmed that they are investigating threatening emails being sent to at least one location in the area.

According to the TOPS website, police responded to a bomb threat in the 2700 block of Capital Circle NE around 2:24 p.m. on Thursday. About 30 minutes earlier, police were called to the 1000 block of Lafayette Street for a bomb threat that turned out to be a suspicious letter.

There have been three more reported threats in the 1400 block of Maclay Commerce Drive, the 100 block of West College Avenue, and the 2200 block of Eisenhower Street.

A spokesperson says that the emails appear to involve a bitcoin scam. At a surface level, TPD says the emails appear to be connected, though they are still investigating both incidents.

They do not believe the threats to be credible. No evacuations have been ordered due to the threats.

According to the FBI, similar bomb threats have been made around the country.

“We are aware of the recent bomb threats made in cities around the country, and we remain in touch with our law enforcement partners to provide assistance. As always, we encourage the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities which could represent a threat to public safety.”

According to WFTV, news outlets around the country are getting reports that the threats are part of a nationwide hoax, however, that information has not been confirmed.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and the New York Police Department have also confirmed that they have received similar bomb threats. They both report that the threats are likely not credible.

Threats are also being reported in Alabama, Illinois, and North Carolina.
