PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia has been named "City of the Year" for 2018 by GQ magazine.

The magazine cites the Super Bowl champion Eagles, the revitalized restaurant scene and the city's socially active athletes and politicians as the reasons for it being a model city

The article, titled "Philly (Is) Special," was authored by Germantown native Zach Baron.

Baron explains that as Philadelphians, you become accustomed to losing. A rich history dating back to hard winters at Valley Forge where George Washington's army hunkered down after first losing downtown.

But the author notes, after years of disappointment, suddenly in 2018 things changed.

The Eagles defeated the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl. Gritty emerged from the depths of who knows where and came crashing on the national stage.

Philly kept being thrust in the headlines: Meek Mill, newly freed from prison, took a helicopter to a 76ers game. The Eagles were uninvited from the White House.

And Will Smith joined Instagram. (And he showed others how it's done!)

All in all, it's been quite a year for the City of Brotherly of Love.
