JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

One person was taken to the hospital after a fire in Jefferson City on Monday night.

The Jefferson City Fire Department was dispatched to a home in the 200 block of Dunford Street around 7:25 p.m.

According to a news release, firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the building. Crews began putting out the flames and rescued an unresponsive woman from the home. Officials say first responders performed resuscitation efforts before Cole County Emergency Medical Services took her to a hospital.

As of 9 p.m., firefighters were still on scene continuing to extinguish the fire and investigating the cause of the fire. The Jefferson City Police Department and Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office are assisting with the investigation.
