Three adults and two juveniles were taken into custody after authorities investigated a theft.

Jefferson City police responded to the 200 block of Riverside Drive shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday to investigate a theft that had just occurred.

According to the Jefferson City Police Department, officers found a victim standing in the yard of a residence holding a firearm. The victim followed commands from officers to lower the weapon.

An initial investigation determined the victim had traveled to the 500 block of East Elm Street to buy narcotics. While the victim was trying to purchase the narcotics their cell phone was taken from him.

The man then returned home followed by the suspects.

Once they returned to Riverside, a disturbance occurred with the five suspects and the victim.

The victim’s father exited the residence and the subjects fled the scene, and the phone was recovered.

Allegedly, there were several rounds fired from a weapon during the disturbance.

Officers stopped the gray Toyota suspect pickup around 5:50 p.m. while it was traveling on U.S. Highway 50 near Lafayette Street. Five people were taken into custody during the stop.

Officers did not find any firearms but did find narcotics. Three adults and two juveniles were taken into custody.

Officers tried to interview each adult about their role in the theft. They were taken to the Cole County Jail.

Officers transported two juveniles to the Juvenile Attention Center for several violations.

The investigation is ongoing and there were no injuries reported.
