JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Cole County prosecutors charged a man with a robbery in the 100 block of North Ventura Avenue in Jefferson City.

Jefferson City police say 21-year-old Tarique Shelton was one of four people who robbed a Jefferson City resident on Friday.

Shelton's probable cause statement shows the alleged robbers held a knife to the victim's throat and had a gun pointed at the person. Court documents say the robbers stole a gun, money and electronics from the residence.

Police said the victim found Shelton's phone after the robbery. Officers identified Shelton through pictures found on the phone. Shelton reported it missing, claiming he had been robbed on Ventura Avenue.

Shelton faces a count each of first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. He's expected to be in the Cole County courthouse on Wednesday. Online court documents don't list an attorney for Shelton.
