JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City woman remained in critical condition Tuesday after firefighters pulled her from a burning house.

Firefighters found the woman unconscious in a bedroom of the burning home in the 200 block of Dunford Street on Monday night. Jefferson City Fire Department Division Chief Jason Turner said Tuesday that she remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The fire appears to have started in the living room, on or near a piece of furniture, Turner wrote in an email update. Turner did not say what started the fire but said his department is still investigating with the help of local police and the State Fire Marshal's Office.
