A man is in custody after being barricaded in his North Charleston home for several hours on Wednesday.

According to the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office, officials responded to 107 Ironwood Trail off of Dorchester Road.

Deputies said that just after 9 a.m., a Dorchester County Civil Process Server tried to serve 60-year-old David DuBois with papers.

Authorities said DuBois made threatening remarks and would not open the door.

After backup arrived, officials stated that they were met by DuBois at the door. Officials said he was swinging a machete and lunged at them before retreating to the apartment.

Deputies and a negotiator tried to speak with DuBois, but he refused to exit the dwelling.

After several hours, authorities used distraction devices and tear gas to enter the apartment and take DuBois into custody.

No injuries have been reported and there has been no word on any charges.
